RP ENERGY FAQS

  • Where will the electricity be sold?

RP Energy will negotiate a Power Sales Agreement with Meralco for the sale of electricity generated from the power station.

  • Will the Project lower electricity sold by Meralco to its customers.

RP Energy will be one of the most efficient, if not the most efficient, coal fired power plants in the Luzon Grid when it starts operations in end-2014 and will be very price competitive. The facility is expected to be operated as a base load plant running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As an efficient base load plant, RP Energy will improve the energy mix in the Luzon grid by providing cheaper and reliable electricity.

  • Will RP Energy sell cheaper electricity to local electric cooperatives and locators?

RP Energy is open to negotiate a power sales agreement with Subic Enerzone, surrounding electric cooperatives and SBMA locators.

  • Will the project benefit SBMA and/or the locality?

RP Energy is committed to contribute to the further development of Subic and Zambales as well as the SBMA. Aside from additional employment opportunities during construction and operations, RP Energy will actively participate in environmental and socio-economic projects that will benefit the community.

On a technical note, the Project will also improve the quality of electricity supply in SBMA and surrounding communities by improving grid stability and lessening line losses.

  • What are environmental and socio-economic projects RP Energy is scheduled to initiate in the community?

RP Energy will support education, health, youth and sports development, human settlements, science and culture and economic development activities initiated by the local communities.

RP Energy is now establishing a carbon sink within the vicinity of the power plant and is now collecting tree seedlings for tree planting within the year.

  • Where is the Project located?

The Project is located within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Subic, Zambales. This will create diversification in the source of electricity supply in the Luzon Grid and lessen grid congestion South of Manila.
